Orthodontic Specialties

You already know that braces straighten crooked teeth. But what you may not realize is that orthodontic treatment achieves more than beautiful smiles for most patients. Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The technical term for these problems is “malocclusion”, which means “bad bite”. The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design, application and control of corrective appliances (braces) to bring teeth, lips, and jaws into proper alignment and achieve facial balance. At Dr. King’s office, we offer a full range of orthodontic services and braces:

Conventional Metal Braces:
Most children may receive complete orthodontic treatment, when most or all of the permanent teeth have erupted. (Usually between the ages of 10 and 12). All colors, including glow in the dark are available at no extra cost.

Ceramic (Clear Braces):
Most adults and many teenagers prefer braces that don’t show. This is a great alternative to the metal braces and results are equivalent.

Invisalign:
This is a removable brace technique using computer generated information. Usually, this technique is reserved for adults and older teenagers with mild problems. See our Invisalign section for more information.

Jaw Expansion:
This technique utilizes jaw expanders, instead of extracting good healthy permanent teeth. See our ‘Jaw Expansion’ section for more detailed information.

Early Treatment:
While most patients should wait until they have lost most or all of their permanent teeth, some young children (10 and under) will benefit from a partial set of braces. This treatment is only performed, if absolutely needed, since most patients will still require full orthodontic braces later.

Jaw Surgery:
If severe jaw problems are present, it may be beyond what braces alone can accomplish. We can work together with an oral surgeon to give you the perfect bite as well as straight your teeth.
