At Dr. King's office, we enjoy technology and often encourage our patients to look for us online. However, we understand the importance of internet safety. Below are guidelines for safely surfing the web (adapted from www.kidshealth.org)

-
Never give your full name, address, phone number, social security # or any other identifying information.
-
If you need a username for chat rooms, don’t use your real name. Make up a fun username instead.
-
Talk with your parents or guardians about your online interests. They want to know and it could help to keep you safe.
-
If you don’t recognize the sender of an email, IM, Friend Request, etc, delete it! Hackers can gain access to the files on your computer by simply accepting these messages.
-
Remember…once online, forever online. If you post a comment or picture online, even if you delete it off your computer, it is in cyberspace forever.
-
Cyber bullying stinks! If you are the victim, tell your parent and keep the evidence. If you are bullying, you are breaking the law and can be reported.
-
If you receive inappropriate email or text pictures, don’t forward them. This could be illegal even if the picture doesn’t involve you.
